At present times, people are more health-conscious than they have ever been, and to keep one healthy, various food items are avoided which are unhealthy for our body. But, there are several food items that are mostly believed to be unhealthy but they are not. In fact, there are various foods we thought as unhealthy that are actually beneficial for our health. In this list, there are five foods considered unhealthy but actually are not.
Ghee
From ancient times, Indians are using ghee to prepare many types of food but in recent times there has been a notion that it’s unhealthy. But some recent research proved that ghee is not unhealthy as compared to other oils and fats.
The misconception that ghee is as unhealthy has been debunked. It is a proven fact that most of the fats and oils break down into free radicals while cooking food and free radicals are not good for our health as the excess amounts of free radicals can damage body cells and hence makes us prone to cancer. But ghee even with a smoking point of 260 degrees Celsius (500 degrees Fahrenheit), doesn’t break down as other oils and fats hence there is no question of it being turned into free radicals. Ghee contains conjugated linoleic acid which is helpful to deal with cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Ghee is also rich in Butyrate which helps in digesting food easily. Along with ghee is a great source for fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K making it beneficial to our body? Like any food, moderation is the key here as the excess of anything is harmful to us.
Eggs
The egg has a very bad reputation of being unhealthy especially the yolk as it contains cholesterol but recent studies have shown that eggs are full of various types of nutrients.
As people are growing health-conscious nowadays, many avoid eggs in their diet because it contains cholesterol but actually, it’s harmful only for those who already have high cholesterol. Besides egg is quite rich a various nutrients beneficial for our health. Eggs contain riboflavin, folate, and vitamins D and B12 which help in preventing the risk of heart disease. It also contains protein and amino acids which are beneficial for our health and helps in weight control, keeping blood pressure in check, improve the immune system, and bone health.
Chocolate
Dark chocolates contain antioxidants and it also improves blood flow, and reducesrisks of heart disease
Not the processed full of sugar chocolates but dark chocolate is actually beneficial for our health. It is made from cocoa bean which is rich in heart-healthy flavonoids that helps in preventing Alzheimer’s disease and age-related memory loss and according to a recent research; it has been found that dark chocolate may be useful to athletes to main stamina.
White Rice
According to Ayurveda rice is a symbol of health, wealth, and fertility and that is the reason why it’s used during sacred ceremonies and newborns to newlyweds are showered with rice.
White rice is not considered as healthy as brown or black rice as unlike these two, white rice contains a very minimal amount of dietary fibre, and also it contains carbohydrates not good for health. But white rice is quite rich in phytonutrients such as manganese, thiamine (vitamin B1), niacin, manganese, vitamin B6, selenium, vitamin B6, copper, and phosphorous. These phytonutrients are very beneficial for our health. White rice also contains antioxidants and it’s easy to digest and it’s the reason it is advised to eat simple curd and rice or dal (lentil) and rice while suffering from an upset stomach. White rice also aids the body in absorbing nutrients from other foods you are having with rice because of lower fibre quantity.
Bananas
Bananas are considered unhealthy because it contains carbohydrates and is sweet but except for diabetics, bananas are very healthy for the average human body.
Bananas are a rich source of fibre and antioxidants which help in fighting free radicals. Bananas also contain potassium, magnesium, copper along with vitamin B6 and C manganese, C which are helpful in dealing with heart-related issues if taken moderately. The sugars present in bananas are natural glucose, fructose, and sucrose and it’s easier to digest as compared to other sweet items like cake or desserts. High in pectin, bananas also help to control blood sugar levels as it’s rich in pectin.
